Football Is a Girls’ Game: A meeting with three Arab women in football

Women’s football players Nouf Faleh Al Anzi (CD Leganés) and Yasmin Mrabet (FC Levante Las Planas) will be attending this meeting at Casa Árabe in Madrid on October 13, along with the former captain of the Palestinian national team Honey Thaljieh. The event will be moderated by journalist Lourdes García Campos. Sign up now to attend. Interest in women’s football has skyrocketed over the last two decades. The two most recent World Cups, held in Canada in 2015 and France in 2021, as well as the UEFA European Championship of 2022, were huge successes and raised women’s soccer to new levels. Casa Árabe, as part of the “Football for Hope” exhibition,” will be highlighting the role played by football in promoting social change by organizing this meeting with three Arab women football players. Nouf Faleh Al Anzi, a player on the national team from the Emirates and a midfielder for the Club Deportivo Leganés; Yasmin Mrabet, of the Levante Las Planas Football Club and Morocco’s national women’s team, and Honey Thaljieh, former captain of the Palestinian national team and now the Director of Corporate Communications at FIFA. The event will be moderated by Lourdes García Campos, an RTVE show host. Nouf Faleh Al Anzi is a midfielder on the senior women’s team of the Club Deportivo Leganés and a captain on the United Arab Emirates’ senior national team. At 25 years of age, she is one of the rising stars in Arab soccer. As well as playing an essential role in women’s soccer in her own country, Al Anzi is known for being the first Emirati woman to play the sport abroad professionally, having gone to Egypt in 2018 to play for the Wadi Degla team. Looking ahead to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Al Anzi appeared alongside players such as Karim Benzema in an Adidas campaign displayed at the Burj Khalifa to help launch “Al Rihla,” the official ball at this World Cup. Yasmin Mrabet is a member of the Levante Las Planas Football Club and Morocco’s national women’s team. The midfielder started playing for the Spanish national team, rising through the ranks to represent Spain at the 2018 UEFA U-19 Women’s Championship. She later changed her affiliation to Morocco and made her debut for the senior national team in 2021. On July 13, 2022, she scored the winning goal in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Botswana, helping Morocco qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023 for the first time in its history. In addition to C.D. Levante Las Planas, Mrabet has played for Madrid CFF and Rayo Vallecano. Honey Thaljieh is a former captain of the Palestinian women’s national soccer team and is now the Director of Corporate Communications for FIFA. Born in Bethlehem, she was already kicking a ball at the age of 7. In addition to social and family constraints, she had to experience the desperation created by the two Palestinian intifadas against the Israeli occupation first hand. Given this situation, Thaljieh saw football as a way to vent her frustration, thus finding a way to build a future with some semblance of hope. After retiring in 2009, she became the first woman from the Middle East to earn a Master’s degree from the International Center for Sports Studies (CIES) in Switzerland in 2012. Presentación del poemario "Cuerpo adentro", de Ana Silva Cuesta

Durante la presentación de la obra, que tuvo lugar el 14 de septiembre de 2017 en la sede de Casa Árabe en Madrid, se mostraron las ilustraciones de la artista marroquí Firdaous Barkallil y se leyeron poemas en árabe y español con acompañamiento musical a cargo del laudista sirio Hames Bitar. El acto contó con la intervención de la propia autora, quien estuvo acompañada por Carmen Ruiz Bravo-Villasante, arabista y editora de CantArabia y Bahira Abdulatif, traductora de la obra. "Cuerpo adentro" es el primer poemario de Ana Silva Cuesta, traducido al árabe por la escritora y poeta iraquí Bahira Abdulatif Yasín, ilustrado por la artista de Rabat Firdaous Barkallil y prologado por la poeta tangerina Rachida Madani. Presentation of the book “Silk Nights” by Aicha Bassry (Arabic)

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Casa Árabe and the Verbum publishing firm, with the cooperation of the Círculo Intercultural Hispano Árabe, organized this presentation of the book: “Noches de Seda” (“Silk Nights”) by Aicha Bassry. The event included the participation of Aicha Bassry, the author; Paula Izquierdo, a writer, and Abdul Hadi Sadoun, a writer, translator and collaborating editor from the Verbum publishing firm. Residencia artística de Alia Farid en el marco del Festival de Patios de Córdoba 2013

Casa Árabe participó en 2013 en el Festival de Patios de Córdoba y abrió las puertas de sus patios a los visitantes para exponer el proyecto realizado por la kuwaití Alia Farid, durante su residencia artística en la ciudad. La artista kuwaití-puertorriqueña Alia Farid fue invitada por Casa Árabe, en colaboración con la Delfina Foundation, a realizar una estancia artística en su sede de Córdoba, que transcurrió entre los días 26 de abril y 5 de mayo. Seis ingredientes para cambiar el mundo

Casa Árabe organizó el 19 de marzo de 2018 en Madrid esta conferencia a cargo de la chef educadora y emprendedora Najat Kaanache, en colaboración con el VIII Encuentro Mujeres que transforman el mundo. Junto a Kaanache, participó en la conferencia Alicia Gómez Montano, periodista española y profesora universitaria. Presentó Nuria Medina, coordinadora de Cultura de Casa Árabe. La ex directora durante ocho años de “Informe Semanal”, Alicia Gómez Montano, moderó el diálogo con la chef de origen marroquí más destacada del mundo, Najat Kaanache, una emprendedora inspiradora y defensora de los derechos de la mujer que ha materializado sus sueños y, centrada en la idea de que cada reto para cambiar el mundo puede ser superado mediante el uso de seis ingredientes principales, ha creado una iniciativa solidaria para proteger el origen de los productos. Najat Kaanache. Chef humanitaria, educadora y emprendedora. Nacida en San Sebastián de familia marroquí. Después de estudiar cine y teatro en Londres, decide formarse como cocinera y trabaja en los mejores restaurantes del mundo (Noma, Bulli, etc.). Investigadora y creadora gastronómica, ideó el proyecto Sixingredients partiendo de la idea de que se requieren seis ingredientes para cambiar el mundo: nuestros cinco sentidos y la conciencia. Un proyecto de ecología y gastronomía transformadora, a través del concepto “Guardianes de la comunidad”, que lidera desde su restaurante Nur en Fez (Marruecos). Alicia Gómez Montano (Madrid, España) doctora en Ciencias de la Información por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y profesora de periodismo televisivo en diversos másteres. Inició su carrera profesional en la radio. En 2012 se publicó el libro 'Por una mirada ética. Conversaciones con Alicia Gómez Montano', en el que la periodista relata su trayectoria profesional desde sus inicios en Radio Nacional de España hasta su labor como directora en Informe Semanal. En noviembre de 2017 fue elegida vicepresidenta de la sección española Reporteros Sin Fronteras sustituyendo a Alfonso Armada que asumió la presidencia de la organización. Talk with the Emirati director Nujoom Alghanem (ARABIC)

06/02/2017. Nujoom Alghamen met with the public on the occasion of this screening of her documentary "Nearby Sky" (Samma Qarribah)(United Arab Emirates, 2014, 95 min.). The screening was part of the film series "New filmmakers from the United Arab Emirates", curated by Alejandra Val Cubero and organized by Casa Árabe, which introduces a new generation of directors who have come onto the scene over the last decade. Fatima Alhameli was the first Emirati women who owns camels to get her camel signed up for a contest and take part in camel auctions in the United Arab Emirates. Despite all the difficulties and challenges encountered when attempting to demonstrate that she could compete in one of the most male-dominated fields, Fatima’s desire to win a race or contest remains the only way to make up for her failures and overcome them. Fatima’s story is reflected in a unique way in this film, which shows the path she has chosen and the challenges she has faced both socially and personally.
