Gender Politics in Tunisia and Libya (Arabic)

To mark the occasion os Women’s Month, we will be holding this round table discussion on Tuesday, March 9, with the participation of Begoña Lasagabaster, the representative of UN-Women for Tunisia and Libya; Yosra Fraoues, the president of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women, and Libyan activist Wafia Saifalnasr, who has been very involved in her country’s political life in recent times. As in the rest of the world, gender equality in the Arab world is far from being achieved both for legal reasons and because of the important role played by customs and traditions which relegate women in many respects compared with men. However, the situation is not exactly the same in all Arab countries. Whilst in some countries little or very little progress has been made on the path towards achieving equality, in others quite a bit of encouraging progress has been made. In order to discuss this important issue, as part of Women’s Month, Casa Árabe is organizing a round table discussion specifically to analyze the situation in Tunisia, one of the most advanced countries in terms of gender equality, and in Libya, a country mired in a lengthy armed conflict which has had an especially strong impact on the situation of women. Participating in the round table will be Begoña Lasagabaster, the representative of UN-Women for Tunisia and Libya; Yosra Fraoues, the president of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women, and Libyan activist Wafia Saifalnasr, who has been very involved in her country’s political life in recent times. Yosra Fraoues is a lawyer and human rights activist. She is the president of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women and delegate of the International Federation for Human Rights in Tunisia. She has taken part as a legal expert in the drafting of texts on the democratic transition, as well as in the drafting of the Law against violence against women approved in 2017. She is also a trainer specialized in the field of human rights in general, and of women's rights in particular. She is the author and co-author of books on the subject equality. Begoña Lassgabaster is Country Representative UN Women Libya and Tunisia. With over 20 years of professional experience, she was a member of the Spanish parliament for 12 years, followed by a stint at the European Parliament. Lasagabaster has helped establish more than 150 laws in areas of women's rights, gender equality law, elimination of violence against women, international development and cooperation, justice, and economic and social rights. Wafia A. Saifalnasr is a Libyan political activist. She was a founding member of the Libyan platform Women for peace. She holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration and a Master in Software Engineering. She was an advisor to former Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zidan. Presentación de la exposición "Arena en mis ojos" (ESP)

Casa Árabe y la Embajada de la República de Sudán en Madrid han organizado una exposición sobre la riqueza cultural y etnográfica del pueblo sudanés a través de fotografías y una selección de textos de la autora Enikö Nagy. El acto de inauguración tuvo lugar el día 3 de junio a las 19:00 horas en el Auditorio de Casa Árabe, con palabras del embajador adjunto de la República de Sudán en España, y el director general de Casa Árabe, Eduardo López Busquets. Tras esto, se proyectó un corto documental de la misma autora, Enikö Nagy, y una vez finalizado se dió paso a la sala de exposiciones, donde se realizó un recorrido por la muestra. Presentación del libro "Noches de seda" de Aicha Bassry

Con Motivo del Día Internacional de la Mujer, Casa Árabe y la editorial Verbum en colaboración con el Círculo Intercultural Hispano Árabe, presentaron el libro: Noches de Seda de Aicha Bassry. Este acto contó con la participación de Aicha Bassry, escritora, Paula Izquierdo, escritora; Abdul Hadi Sadoun, escritor, traductor y editor colaborador de la editorial Verbum. Presentación del poemario "Cuerpo adentro", de Ana Silva Cuesta

Durante la presentación de la obra, que tuvo lugar el 14 de septiembre de 2017 en la sede de Casa Árabe en Madrid, se mostraron las ilustraciones de la artista marroquí Firdaous Barkallil y se leyeron poemas en árabe y español con acompañamiento musical a cargo del laudista sirio Hames Bitar. El acto contó con la intervención de la propia autora, quien estuvo acompañada por Carmen Ruiz Bravo-Villasante, arabista y editora de CantArabia y Bahira Abdulatif, traductora de la obra. "Cuerpo adentro" es el primer poemario de Ana Silva Cuesta, traducido al árabe por la escritora y poeta iraquí Bahira Abdulatif Yasín, ilustrado por la artista de Rabat Firdaous Barkallil y prologado por la poeta tangerina Rachida Madani. Presentation of the book “Silk Nights” by Aicha Bassry (Arabic)

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Casa Árabe and the Verbum publishing firm, with the cooperation of the Círculo Intercultural Hispano Árabe, organized this presentation of the book: “Noches de Seda” (“Silk Nights”) by Aicha Bassry. The event included the participation of Aicha Bassry, the author; Paula Izquierdo, a writer, and Abdul Hadi Sadoun, a writer, translator and collaborating editor from the Verbum publishing firm. Residencia artística de Alia Farid en el marco del Festival de Patios de Córdoba 2013

Casa Árabe participó en 2013 en el Festival de Patios de Córdoba y abrió las puertas de sus patios a los visitantes para exponer el proyecto realizado por la kuwaití Alia Farid, durante su residencia artística en la ciudad. La artista kuwaití-puertorriqueña Alia Farid fue invitada por Casa Árabe, en colaboración con la Delfina Foundation, a realizar una estancia artística en su sede de Córdoba, que transcurrió entre los días 26 de abril y 5 de mayo.
